So my last attempt at buying a car failed, it was crushing. So I’m shifting gears. I’ve come to the conslusion that I need to wait until next spring, when if all goes well I’ll have 3-4,000 as a down payment. So heres my list.

1 four seats, fun, manual Trans, no more than 13,000 bucks, reliable.

The cars I’m think about.

Kinja'd!!!

1. RSX Type S, 2. 02-05 Civic Si these too are my first choices because Honda. And they both came Ina nice blue, the RSX also had a Copper color I’m a fan of.

3. Second gen Mazdaspeed3(not sure about reliability on that one, also not a fan on their interiors. But I do love that they came this a amazing blue.

Kinja'd!!!

4. Hyundia Genesis Coupe R spec V6, or 2..0T, I’ve wanted one since they first were introduced that odd little window dip gets me.

Kinja'd!!!

I kinda want to consider a Veloster turbo, they’ve grown a lot on me, but I just can’t imagine having a car this hard to see out the back of. But I do like that the hatch goes half way up the roof.

Kinja'd!!!

Oh yeah 500 Abarth those things got cheap quick, which is also scary.

Any input on the cars listed or other suggestions would be fun. Another apcar I thought of was the 350Z but that's a two seater and my family is about to be a family of three.

Well if your about to have a family of 3 I’d highly suggest a car 4-5 door car. I think putting the baby in the back seat would get old. I’d say GTI or a EG or EK Civic EX. Honda didn’t make a 5 door as far as I know, but the trunk in my old EG was good enough. I wouldn’t get past a 2000 civic since it sounds like your looking for performance and that’s when they went to McPherson strut instead of the semi- double wishbone. Plus they ride very nice with the independent rear suspension.

Of course neither of those are very fast in a straight line, but are fun in the corners. I’d also add a 4 door Integra if you can find one.

Also I hear the Veloster Turbo is very disappointing, but don’t let that stop you from test driving one!

The same Veloster is still sold new... You might want to go test drive one at the dealer before looking used. Seeing out wasn’t actually that bad, but I was really disappointed with the way the non-turbo one drove. I haven’t driven the turbo, but I hear it’s pretty much the same but a little faster.

You could get a first gen or even second gen Lexus IS with a manual. Has RWD, which is always nice. Very nice interiors too.

Some people like the Infinity G35 coupe. I heard it drives better than a 370Z. You need to look to find one that wasn’t modified or driven hard though.

The 3rd gen Acura TL Type-S is an awesome car. A little bigger than other’s you’re looking at, but also more comfortable and practical.

If you’re willing to take a little more risk with reliability, a Mk6 GTI would be awesome. Not too expensive to run, especially if you have a stick. If the car was maintained and driven well it shouldn’t be unreliable. Not any worse than a 500 Abarth at least.

The Focus ST is just barely getting to $13k. Some cars with not too many miles are available for right around there, and maybe you could bargain $1k off. Has a lot of power and is a hoot to drive.

You could also get a bugeye WRX. Get a wagon if you so desire. The Saab 9-2X Aero is the same thing with a Saab bumper on it, so that gets major jalop points.

I’ve heard very mixed reviews of the driving experience, but the Volvo C30 is worth a look. The manuals are quite rare, but it seems like almost all of the ones with a stick have the sport package.

Also there’s the NC Miata. People say a lot of bad things about it, but those people have clearly never driven one. It’s not bad at all.

Abarth. Relatively new and the horrendous depreciation means you can find them in the mid- or even low-teens. You can drive this for a few years without having to worry about large maintenance worries that come with older cars. The engines seem to be durable.

The RSX is probably the best-built car, but assuming you find a clean one it’s still at least ten years old with high miles and looming long-term maintenance items. If you can stomach that, it will probably be the most predictable long-term ownership. And although it’s the most competent car in your list, it’s not as hilariously fun as the Abarth.

The G35 seems bigger and soft than what I want, but I could be wrong.

I do love the second gen TL Type S, I don’t think th First gen had a manual option, but again it’s just a bigger car than I’d really like. Plus clean ones still seem to be rediculously priced, like over 15,000 for almost 100,000 mile cars.

The GTI should be on my list especially a two door.

A Focus St would be cool, hey maybe by then a Fiesta ST would be in my price range. I’ll have to fast out a 1.0l Fiesta hatch as well. Could be fun.

As for the WRX I can’t see myself buying another AWD car as a daily. I love getting 30+mpg. Although lots of other cars listed here wouldn’t hit that.

I forgot about the C30 if I could find an R Design in my provide range I’d consider it. I love the way they look, and the size is right. I’ve heard they’ll nickel and dime you though.

I’m really hoping I can find a clean lower mile RSX. The Abarth doesn’t have more character though, and I love small cars, I’ll have to at least test drive one on a trip to Minneapolis some time.

Second-gen IS250 with a manual is garbage. I used to own one. Looks good, quiet and nice comfy interior, but the engine is lousy for the weight of the car and the transmission is garbage. The engine plus that transmission plus the weight of the car really ruins it. The IS350 (unfortunately auto-only) is much much nicer.

So you are about to have a baby and are looking to spend $13000 on a used, small car, preferably a coupe because they come in a pretty blue?

I have the 500 Abarth convertible, and that is probably not the best car for a car seat. It is a very fun car to drive though. They are super cheap - you can pick barely used examples for $12000 these days if you look hard. But, they are tiny, not comfortable, virtually zero room for stuff in the cockpit - no place for a wallet or a phone or sunglasses or anything else other than the two tiny cup holders.

Imho, your list should be:

1. Super safe

2. Fits the baby comfortably

3. Find the funnest car that satisfies 1 and 2

Well the wife’s 2010 Fit will be doing 95% of kid hauling duty, and he’s 7 so he can get himself in his own seat, and in a year or so he’ll be big enough not to need a booster anyway. (we’re adopting my nephew). As for safety well, that’s why I’m looking at 5-12 year old cars, not 20-30 cars that I actually want/already own.

I don’t have 50,000 bucks. Sadly, also the S2000 could be on this list, but the wife wants to be able to fit the family in my car if we have to, like if her car is being worked or something.
